WSU Dairy Club Wins National Quiz Bowl Competition

WSU Dairy Club Wins National Quiz Bowl Competition

The Washington State University Dairy Club took first place among 12 universities at the quiz bowl of the American Dairy Science Association annual meeting.
The captain of the team Brooke Vander Veen explains what it means for the WSU’s team to win this competition.
Vander Veen: “This year was especially exciting for WSU because we actually did win the contest. It is really exciting for a school of our size because this contest is usually dominated by larger schools and they have a larger member base to pull students from. This is only the second time in the 12-year history of this contest that it has come to the West Coast.”
Who all participated on the team?
Vander Veen: “Members of the team are Danielle Meyers, Kevin Gavin, Megan Cihak, Brooke Vander Veen and alternate Jessica Levy.”
The quiz bowl is designed to encourage students to learn about dairy science, production, foods, processing and the American Dairy Science Association. WSU Dairy Club members prepared for the contest during the school year and even after graduation.

Vander Veen gives kudos to the Dairy Club Advisor for his role in their success.

Vander Veen: “Dr. Fox is our highly esteemed advisor. He has been the Dairy Club advisor for 27 years. He is the reason for the success and passion of the students in Dairy Club. We have a motto this year, “You only have to impress yourself and Dr. Fox.” I think that really shows how much we respect and appreciate him.”
