7-26 SS Moose Danger
Even though Moose are vegetarians, we all know that in the wilderness they can be pretty aggressive, particularly on the part of a cow moose with a young calf around. Dawn Collias and her husband certainly found that out when they were out walking her dog in the Alaska wilderness. The cow, with calf in tow, saw Dawn and didn’t hesitate to charge. “She had just calved and my husband came running at her with a stick to try to get her off me. I was still on my feet running. So she started chasing him. It was just a fiasco. We kept running further and further away, she gave up and went back to her calf. Then I said where is Zeke the dog? I whistled for him and he had totally hidden under the tundra. He popped his head up and we took off. We never saw a moose again. We have been chased by other moose but never had danger like that. I watched somebody get their shoulder broken by a moose, in our neighborhood they had to kill a moose because she was stomping our neighbor boy. We had a lot of moves come down into our town because the houses took up their wintering area. So is it safe to say that the Zeke is not a great watchdog? ( Laughter)
