7-2 IAN Stronger Stalks
Get stronger corn stalks and you will increase your harvest efficiency. Weak corn stalks and poor standability can negatively impact corn both this season and your field in future years. Today on his Stress Management Minute - Dr. Eric Tedford - lead technical product specialist for Syngenta - discusses the importance of having strong stalks and how lodging can increase harvest time and costs for farmers. He refers to a Syngenta product Quilt Xcel: “Quilt Xcel Provides stronger stocks of corn which allows the corn to stand better out there in the field, particularly under challenging conditions like we saw last year, stronger stocks result in less lodging and certainly that is important at harvest time so growers can get the combine through the field much quicker and there is an economic value to doing that. We did a study a couple of years ago and found that you can get the combine through 1.7 mph faster in the treated area over the untreated area. That doesn’t sound like a lot but it is of great benefit when it comes to harvest efficiency, fuel costs, labor costs and savings to the grower.”
