6-24 IAN Farm Bill

 The farm bill was defeated and this country has lost its way.

 The farm bill, something that is critical to the food supply to America and much of the world. The farm bill, something that is critical to our nations farmers. The farm bill, something that is critical to America but the farm bill isn’t about farming, it’s about entitlement, it’s about enabling, it’s disgusting. Listen to  Washington state Congressman Doc Hastings and then Congressman Mike Simpson’s spokesperson Nikki Watts: “ ( Hastings)It appears to me that a number of Democrats voted no because, frankly, a provision that should be in place to save tax payers dollars in the long run. I guess the bottom line is that it was not the provisions in the farm bill that defeated the bill but rather it was provisions in the food stamp program and reforms of the food stamp program that appears to be what has defeated this bill. (Now Nikki):  As you know the farm bill is bipartisan and the Democrats were promising some 40 votes and came up with only 24. The biggest problem is that 80% of the farm bill has to do with food and nutrition, food stamps, welfare. Everyone knows that we are cutting budgets significantly and if 80% of the farm bill has to do with the welfare program, there are going to be meaningful reforms and cuts there. There were some savings that needed to take place and very good reforms, but they couldn’t come along with us.”

 I can’t say anything politically incorrect that’s for sure. But I will tell you this. I have been in this country a long time and have never felt a greater divide.
