6-11 IAT Canal Safety
Kicking off the canal safety campaign.
Gov. Otter recently held a press conference called Kicking off the canal safety campaign. The intent behind this effort is to create awareness in the community that these aqueous arterioles that are essential to Idaho agriculture not be viewed as recreational venues. “We have thousands of miles of canals in the state of Idaho. They are essential to our agricultural economy and therefore essential to our nearly $60 billion economy. As we have found in the past and hope to avoid in the future, they can also be extremely deadly. This entire campaign is directed to make people aware that this is not a place to recreate, it is not a place to entertain friends and family because they can be extremely dangerous. Each year, we lose lives to those canals. So we are going to do everything we can to help avoid that. We need everyone aware, especially parents. We aren’t talking necessarily about only the lives of humans. We are also talking about pets. Letting pets have access to these canals can result in tragedy.
