6-11 IAN Water War
Irrigation season is in full swing in Idaho and this year its not without controversy.
In Canyon county farmers are being ticketed for allowing sprinklers to hit county roads.Sid Freeman is a farmer from Middleton and he has a nose for the press: “I think we have a little story here.” And as part of that story, Sid says that the local highway district put TV ads on the air warning farmers about irrigating county roads. “Have you seen the ads and the Press Tribune? Now they are just going to start hammering down. It is not a safety issue. They just want us to keep the water off the roadways. It is somewhat controversial as you can imagine because sometimes you can control it and sometimes you cannot.” At least this far there is an uneasy peace that has settled in between farmers and highway districts and Southwest Idaho, but you just heard Sid say that sometimes you can control it and sometimes you can’t so, as the season wears on that could be tested.
