6-5 IAN GMO Protests

More consumers today want to know where their food comes from and how it is raised. The U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance is a farmer and rancher led-organization working to build trust in today’s food production system. The organization serves as the voice of farmers and ranchers  – a voice that is often missing when consumers and influencers are forming opinions about food. The USFRA Face of Farming and Ranching Bo Stone says USFRA’s approach of creating a dialogue with consumers, media and other influencers is the correct approach: “As farmers and ranchers,  all too often we tell our stories to each other and we know what it is that we do each day but the consumers and the influencers in the food industry often times don’t have that opportunity to interact with farmers and ranchers so opening up that dialogue, and honest and open dialogue where we can talk about the issues and the problems that we each have is the right step and I think the right approach to this issue.” It might be the right approach to the issue, but I’m guessing we better get talking really quickly with consumers as we have seen recent marches and protests in every major market in the country over the whole genetically modified foods issue. The press is all over this and they are blaming GMO for cancer, colony collapse disorder in bees and a host of other things. The biggest culprit in the press… Monsanto.
