Bee Health Report & Recycling Troubles

Bee Health Report & Recycling Troubles plus video instruction. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

USDA and the EPA have released a comprehensive scientific report on honey bee health. The report states that there are multiple factors playing a role in honey bee colony declines, including parasites and disease, genetics, poor nutrition and pesticide exposure. Acting Administrator of the EPA Bob Perciasepe, talks about what is being done.

PERCIASEPE: We’re advancing new equipment and formulation technologies - performance or best management practices and enforceable pesticide use instructions that can help avoid pesticide exposure to bees when they’re foraging. We’re finding ways to minimize the release of pesticide contaminated dust during planting

Our family has been recycling for years. We tend to recycle just as much as we possibly can including all kinds of plastics. Now a report says that due to a decision by China to stop purchasing several kinds of rigid plastic that many recycling centers are saying no to some plastics. Many kinds of plastic continue to be recyclable, including milk jugs. Some recyclers are taking this opportunity to urge consumers to rethink their purchasing to include other kinds of recyclable packaging.

Now using farm videos to teach farmers. Gary Crawford has more.
