So God Made a Farmer

So God Made a Farmer

So, God Made a Farmer

I’m KayDee Gilkey with today’s Northwest Farm and Ranch Report.

According to Fox Sports news the top Super Bowl commercial featured the Budweiser Clydesdale which had a lot of pre-show buzz but it was the second place commercial of Ram’s featuring legendary radio broadcaster Paul Harvey, “So God Made a Farmer” that struck a strong chord with those of us involved in agriculture.

According to a Case IH news release, Case teamed up with its sister company, Ram Trucks in a campaign declaring 2013 The Year of the Farmer” and the two-minute Ram Super Bowl commercial launched a year-long multi-tiered initiative dedicated to highlighting and underscoring the importance of farmers in America.

Here is a portion of the moving speech Harvey gave at the 1978 National FFA Convention featured in the commercial.
Harvey: “God said I need somebody who is willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt and watch it die and then dry his eyes and say, ‘Maybe next year.’ I need someone who can shape an axe handle from persimmon sprout and shoe a horse with a hunk of car tire, that can make harness out of haywire, feed sacks and shoe scraps. Who planting time and harvest season will finish his 40 hour week by Tuesday noon, then pain from tractor-back will put in another 72 hours, so God made a farmer.”

So if you missed seeing it, find it at www.RamTrucks.com/keepplowing. Get the word out too, as in addition to highlighting agriculture, Ram is using Social Media so every time someone views, downloads or shares the commercial, Ram will make a donation to the National FFA Organization with the intent of generating $1 million.
