More with Damian Mason

More with Comedian Damian Mason. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

Damian Mason has traveled the country talking to farmers about farming. And while he does have a farm his main source of income is laughter. Mason loves to champion the farmer.

MASON: We’re under 2% of the United States population that’s actually producing. Only about 7% is involved peripherally in the business of agriculture. 16% of America lives in rural America. We’re outnumbered 84-16 at best. Even more so 93-7 from non-ag and ag. I try to make that 7% that’s living and involved in agriculture feel appreciated. I make them laugh and I also let them think about the fact that we can’t keep preaching to ourselves because preaching to the choir in this business...you don’t get anywhere.

Mason though gets serious when it comes to the misinformation that people are fed.

MASON: They are influenced by the New York Times. They are influenced by their peer group. They’re influenced my misinformation which is funded and spread and dispersed in great form with places like the Humane Society of the United States, PETA, the environmental groups. There are people that, say in New York, that absolutely believe that if you spray herbicide over a 160 acre patch of potatoes that you have just poisoned them or the food product and it’s just misinformation.
