 Rodney Bollinger is in the fishing business, as in rod maker, leader maker, and a lot of other things. He has taken a cottage industry and developed a business that we all should envy. Here is a part of his story. “ I got into the business back in the early 90s with a friend from San Diego that taught me how to build rods and I enjoyed it and I stuck with it. It’s kind of like gardening to most, I enjoy building a rod just as much as I enjoy gardening. I lose track of time building a fishing rod area. Okay you have 5 women working for you and you sell to 15 shops, that is a pretty good track record isn’t it? Actually the ladies that I have hired is for a custom leader business that I started last fall. The leader business took off and I had to hire the ladies to help me keep up with making leaders so they wouldn’t run out in the stores. Actually right now I have 21 stores that I tie custom leaders for. All kinds of stores from hardware stores to sporting goods stores. I’ve got several different leaders that fit the lures and right now I have 2 leaders that fit all lures without having to tie the different leaders for them.”
