Spuds and Harley's Part 2

Spuds & Harley’s Part 2. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

Ken Schmidt, Former Brand Visionary and Communications Strategist with Harley Davidson was the breakfast speaker at this year’s Potato Expo in Las Vegas. His talk stirred the attendees with some out of the box thinking.

SCHMIDT: I could talk for the next 4 1/2 hours about how awesome I believe this machinery is. What beautiful pieces of rolling sculpture these products are. I could speak further more hours beyond that about the quality of this product - oh the quality. The “Q” word. Quality and the commitment to customer satisfaction and the excellence and the brilliance of the engineering to bring these products to the marketplace. Hands on craftsmanship brought to you by very, very skilled; very, very proud people that are focused on exceeding expectations of stakeholders across all areas of the enterprise by focusing on value added activities. How about that for BULL business language.

What is Schmidt’s point?

SCHMIDT: Non of that can convince any of you to crack your wallets open and go buy a motorcycle. The overwhelming majority of you in this room when asked if you have a motorcycle did not raise your hand. We haven’t reached you, yet. We haven’t tripped a switch yet in your heart and your soul and your gut that drives you to this. You don’t know what the other people in the room that raised their hands do know. Yet.

We’ll wrap up tomorrow.

That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
