1-10 SS Deer Tour

 Pure inspiration.....Roger Selner and the team at Eastman’s hunting journals developed a traveling display of trophy mule deer that have been taken throughout the West. At sportsman shows you can see the mounts and hear the stories behind them. “I contacted Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, Sports Afield and they said they were not really interested In sponsoring or doing anything like that. I visited with Mike at one of the shows and he said he liked the idea. He said he needed national exposure and wanted to tie it in with the magazine in order to promote it and market it and he said it would be a perfect tie with the tour. He went to borrow the money to sponsor me and I went to the bank and borrowed money, bought a truck and trailer and built a 70 foot display and we launched it. We chuckle about it in his office because he has a photo of the original black Dodge and trailer and it says Eastman’s world record elk tour. Everybody said this is really something. So our partnership was launched. He believed in my ideas and I believed in his magazine. Now 20 years later the top 2 Western magazines and a TV show. Each year, I would contract 10 new ones focusing on the real stories and the hunters and the concept took off. So we did the elk to work for 8 years and then I really like big deer so I sold the elk to tour to the elk foundation and I designed the new exhibit and went back to big deer and called it the Great Deer the West, Eastman’s Trophy Deer Tour.”
