Ninth Annual Cattleman’s Workshop

I’m KayDee Gilkey with today’s Open Range.

The ninth annual Cattleman’s Workshop will be on Saturday, January 19th in LaGrande, Ore., and if you haven’t yet attended, it is time to make the trek.
Oregon State University Associate Professor and program head for the Eastern Oregon Ag and Natural Resources Program Tim DelCurto shares some workshop details.

DelCurto: “There is going to be a lot of information about the economics of the beef cattle industry. Where it is going. What is going to happen with commodities. What is going to happen to beef prices. But there is also going to be several speakers that are going to be talking about beef production.”

Over the years, the organizers have had the who’s who in the beef industry as speakers and this year is no exception to that usual top notch list of presenters. John Patterson, the NCBA Executive Director of Producer Education, will be the MC for the workshop. The keynote will be Dr. Dave Kohl, one of my personal favorite speakers: as well as AgriBeef’s Robert Rebholtz, Ag-Resources Bill Tierney, and Padlock Ranch’s Trey Patterson.

The last several years attendance has been about 500 ranchers. DelCurto encourages anyone interested in beef production to attend. What is the cost?

DelCurto: “Yea, it is free program. I think it is one of the better programs of its kind in North America. This year like in most years, we have an outstanding set of speakers.”

Lunch is also free, you can bet beef will be on the menu. The event will be held at the Blue Mountain Conference Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m on Saturday, January 19th. No registration is necessary.
