 Is GMO safe?

An article in the paper recently questioned the safety of genetically modified produce by declaring that the government wanted specific labeling as to whether or not the product was GMO. I sat down with Gov. Otter: “I’m old enough to remember when we started to improve our agricultural crops. Not only to assuage the problems of hunger in the United States and around the world and I would suspect if we had to identify every modified agricultural product, there wouldn’t be any that have not been modified. In 1935 we had over 300,000 acres that were dedicated to potato production in the state and the average production was 6500 weight per acre. But it was because of our breeding programs which genetically modified the Russet Burbank, the Russet potato to what we can now call the Russet Burbank as a result of Burbank’s breeding and not only did it produce now 350 bags per acre but a higher quality in solids and better balance between the starches and the sugars. If you go to corn, there was a big article in the newspaper just the other day on Crook and company. The guy was 103 years old because he had been eating his own corn. He genetically modified in years and years ago.
