1-3 IAN Water Outlook
A great talk with USDA Water Supply Specialist, Ron Abramovich.... I called up the most knowledgeable guy I know about water and this is what he said: Unfortunately More’s Creek is not going to have as much snow as some of the higher elevations so it will probably be a little below average. Right now we have a very unique snowpack that is building up in central Idaho and above 7000 feet some of the snow measurement sites are pushing record high limit for today. Below 7000 feet in the 6000 range we are looking at very little snow and they are almost record low. It is all a result of those storms that came through dumping a lot of snow and moisture about 7000 and rain in the valleys. What’s it going to be like this summer, will the rivers flow? We are off to a great start. Across the state the snowpack is better than average in most places. The rain actually helped saturate the soils so most of that dryness from last summer is behind us so when the snow melts next spring that will produce more run and get the water into the reservoirs.
