12-26 FB Hydroponics
Lord knows that 2012 might go down as the year of the most recent drought. Here’s an irony. In our next story were going to talk about farming in water. I’m David Sparks, hydroponics is next.
Paul Brentlinger is President and CEO of a company that sets up greenhouses for growing produce. He contrasts his method against hydroponic growers who use LED lighting. “And even they aren’t doing it on a large scale because of the economies of it. So while that is getting a lot of press we are very much not the indoor hydroponic producer. For greenhouses our main crops are lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers, we’ve got growers in all 50 states and around the world. What we offer is a proven system that has been shown to be successful for years and years by many, many growers across all kinds of environments. So you have a system where you set up greenhouses and use typical greenhouse methodologies? Greenhouse methodology is a little too vague but what I would say is yes you are using a greenhouse but instead of growing in the soil you are depending on the type of food crop we are going to use nutrient film technique.
