Clean Energy Innovator Award

Clean Energy Innovator Award

Clean Energy Innovator Awards. I’m Greg Martin as Line On Agriculture presents the Harvest Clean Energy Report.

The Havesting Clean Energy Conference is just around the corner and they are getting ready for another great get together of people and ideas. Michael Cloughesy, Director of Forestry at the Oregon Forest Resources Institute talks about the Clean Energy Innovators Award which is a part of the annual conference.

CLOUGHESY: Each year when the Harvesting Clean Energy Conference is held the organizers want to do awards in order to recognize farmers and forest landowners and companies that are going out of their way to do innovative things to use energy more efficiently in our farms and in our forests. And so it’s a way to recognize them and it’s open nomination. Anyone can be nominated and it’s really just a way to say, hey, these guys are making a difference. They’re trying to change their operations to both save themselves money but also to be more efficient with our natural resources.

He talks about why clean energy projects are so important.

CLOUGHESY: Especially when you look at $4.20 diesel and you look at electricity that’s going higher and higher, everything. It’s just the cost of energy is just the cost of energy is just a huge cost of operation and as we as a country try to become more energy independent the whole idea of renewables is that we can both do stuff energy-wide that’s better for the environment and also do stuff to help our country become energy independent and probably most importantly for the operators is lower the costs.

These innovator awards have been given out in the past several years to digester projects, wind and solar energy projects and more. Cloughesy talks about nominations.

CLOUGHESY: One of the big things this year is with this year’s conference we’re having forestry as a part of the mix. Forestry has been in it in the past but it hasn’t been a major part. It’s a full partner this year so we’re really doing an outreach for both the forest operators, forest landowners and forest products companies to be recognized for the great they are doing. The process is, we have it online and they’re taking nominations until October 26th
