Debunking GM Crops and Farm To Fork

Debunking GM Crops and Farm To Fork. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

There has been a lot of ink committed to genetically modified crops including a recent French study linking rats that developed tumors and died to GM corn. A University of Illinois Professor Dr. Bruce Chassy says the study is not credible.

CHASSY: What was observed in this study is no different than you would see with just normal untreated Sprague-Dawley rats that are allowed to grow for this long. There is a long historical database about these rats. They were used as lab rats because they do develop tumors at an alarmingly high rat and so they are a great model for studying tumor formation and carcinogenesis.

New federal requirements are bringing more fresh fruits and veggies to the school lunchroom and that may help the Farm To Fork movement in the long run as more and more local food is finding its way into your kids hands and hopefully their tummy’s. Local farms are seeing a boost as kids are being taught that the food on their plate was grown, not on some farm someplace else, but only a few mile from where they live. It’s a great message complete with good taste and good nutrition as well.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
