9-11 FB Corn Prices
What’s going on with corn in Idaho. I had a chat with the executive director of the Idaho grain producers Association, Travis Jones, the other day, and I asked him about the state of corn here in the state of Idaho: “The corn harvest in Idaho is looking okay because most of the corn if not all of it is irrigated and we have adequate water supplies in Idaho to take care of the corn so I think unless we are dealing with pests, corn production in Idaho is going to be okay. Is really the rest of the country that we are worried about that does not have irrigation such as the Midwest where they are looking at the worst crop in 6 years and the worst yields in 17 years. That is a problem for the rest of the country which is the bulk of the corn belt. Does that mean that the corn farmers of Idaho are going to have a lucrative season? Yes, however, most of the corn produced in the state of Idaho goes to dairies so it is not so much into the human food chain or ethanol. The dairymen and the beef cattle feed lots are the ones that are taking the brunt of these high prices even though Idaho doesn’t factor in as much to those high prices when it comes to corn production in our state but the dairymen and beef cattle guys are suffering the most from these high prices so as long as they can still pay Idaho corn farmers for the feed that they need, then everyone will come out okay except for the high prices to the dairymen and beef cattle guys.
