9-7 FB NRCS Drought

9-7 FB NRCS Drought

Pragmatics. An agency from the US government. Is it possible that we could blend the two? Believe it or not, the Natural Resources Conservation Service is attempting to do that. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is offering grants to develop agricultural practices in an effort to help farmers and ranchers adapt to drought. Up to $5 million in grants are available from NRCS to evaluate and demonstrate agricultural practices that help farmers and ranchers adapt to drought. NRCS is taking applications for Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) to help producers build resiliency into their production systems so they can adapt to climatic extremes, such as the current drought impacting the  nation. I called up Denise Adkins, Resource Conservationist. “Is the NRCS asking for help dealing with this drought and if you have an innovative technique for doing so, please help us out by passing along your information and we will pay you for it. Right and most of the people who apply for the grants do the studies with the money from the grants. They will have an idea and they will contact us and they will put in their application and we will say yea a or nay. Grant applications are due Oct. 15, 2012. Private individuals, Tribes, local and state governments and non-governmental organizations can apply.
