Pink Lady America has entered into a promotional partnership with the state of Washington as Alan Taylor, spokesperson for Pink Lady America explains.

TAYLOR: Well we’re very fortunate with Pink Lady America that we can do some things that other groups can’t and often times that it was related to health because we have a healthy product and also we try to do some service things for growers and the community and we happened upon a program called Apple Health For Kids which the state of Washington has had since 2010.

The program is funded by the state for low income children and helps provide them with health coverage.

TAYLOR: After substantial talks with the folks at the Washington State Health Care Authority we decided that because there is a large number of low-income children associated with the fruit industry, their families work in the industry that it would be good for them to have access to this low-cost health coverage. Low cost for some of them; free for others.

Taylor said this was a very easy decision for Pink Lady to make and partner with Apple Health for Kids.

TAYLOR: And with thousands of Washington children apparently eligible for this coverage and often times associated with agriculture we thought it would be good to partner with the industry and get the word out that this is available.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
