Feral swine face a new threat in the Pacific Northwest
The campaign is intended to raise awareness about feral swine and the threat they pose to Pacific Northwest waterways and natural resources. The regional effort is aimed at stopping the expansion of feral swine populations, informing private landowners of the need to report feral swine, providing a convenient and easy way for people to report sightings of feral swine, establishing baseline population estimates and distribution, and connecting landowners with agencies that can provide technical assistance in feral swine management. Here’s Lisa DeBruyckere, Oregon Invasive Species Council Coordinator
“Early detection and rapid response are key,” said Amy Ferriter, Idaho’s Invasive Species coordinator. “The invasive species councils of the Pacific Northwest consider this a priority. We all recognize that eradicating small populations and minimizing the impacts of these invasive species is important to the economy and natural resources of the region.”
