5-31 FB Potato Glyphosate

Being a potato producer isn’t so easy after all, not that anybody ever thought it was in the 1st place. Lately there have been some problems associated with chemicals being used on potatoes. I recently did a report where Japan is not accepting processed potatoes from the US from growers who use a product to protect against early blight. Now there is news from Andy Robinson, a Potato Agronomist  who has conducted significant research on potato production that there are some problems emerging - and one might be some glyphosate injury.

“We are not 100% positive but it looks like glyphosate carry over onto the seed. I got some stuff  sent out to the lab to verify that but all the symptoms point to wards glyphosate”.

For some cases of possible glyphosate injury - Robinson says the injury to the seedling should be fairly obvious. “Some of the most severe cases the seeds will not germinate and it produces multiple little sprouts around the eye. Some that do have the glyphosate effect, there can be multiple sprouts coming out from the eye when they come out of the ground and some of them will have malformations in the leaf.”
