5-14 FB Wheat Commission

The Idaho Grain Producers Association (IGPA) is seeking applications from area wheat growers to serve a 5-year position of District 1 commissioner on the Idaho Wheat Commission .

The IWC’s mission is to create and maintain domestic and foreign markets, invest producer funds in critical research areas, and to provide information and education beneficial to the Idaho wheat grower. I called up IGPA Executive Director Travis Jones,  and asked him about the job.  “You want to take a perfectly good hard-working wheat farmer and turn him into a politician? ( Laughter) a Commissioner isn’t actually a politician if that is what you are referring to, he is actually an agent of the state. His job is to work on behalf of growers with the taxing authority in order to decide where tax dollars are spent in terms of research and education and risk management.”

Nominees must submit an application by May 18, 2012 through their respective county grain grower organization affiliated with the IGPA. Applications shall include a brief cover letter and one-page resume outlining the candidate’s background, qualifications, reasons for seeking the position and any letters of support and endorsement. Applications received by the county grower organizations will be reviewed by the IGPA and three qualified candidates will be provided to the Governor.  The Governor will then make the final appointment.
