Scholarships Available. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

College students! If you are considering an education in the viticulture and enology field you should listen up. Vicky Scharlau, Executive Director of the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers has some scholarship dollars available.

SCHARLAU: The Washington Wine Industry Foundation has money to give away and we’re excited to again give away - last year we gave away about $18-thousand dollars so depending on where the fund accounts are it will be about the same amount. There are four different scholarships that students can apply to; one is in honor of Walter Clore, one is from the Horse Heaven Hills wine growers, one is in honor of S.W. otherwise known as Bill Preston and there’s the John Farmer scholarship.

Scharlau give us the details of how to apply.

SCHARLAU: The deadline is June 1 and those interested can be high school seniors or someone already in college and wishes to apply for a scholarship for the coming fall school year. They’ll need five things to fill out their application; the actual form - the actual application form itself, a 500-word essay, two letters of reference, school transcripts and their planned course work. And of course all this needs to be wrapped up and sent to us with a bow by June 1st.
