DuPont's Fontelis Fungicide

DuPont's Fontelis Fungicide

DuPont’s Fontelis Fungicide. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Tree fruit growers...you now have a new weapon in your battle to grow pome and stone fruit. Bond McInnes, technical product development manager with DuPont Crop Protection discusses their new fungicide, Fontelis.

MCINNES: I think they are always looking for something to try to make them more productive and profitable. It’s a new fungicide we’ve been developing really for the last 5 years here in the U.S. market; really a worldwide registration so we’re really excited about bringing that product in.

For fruit growers there is always that unexpected issue that plagues a crop.

MCINNES: When you talk about the weather that’s really what we fight a lot of times with foliar diseases which we’re talking about on our apples, cherries and pears. What do we do with this unexpected weather, with this unexpected disease pressure? How do we manage it and that’s why we’re excited about Fontelis because it does bring a new fungicide to the growers and it has the power and flexibility to deal with that unexpected.

McInnes says this new fungicide will give you a lot of flexibility.

MCINNES: It controls powdery mildew, that’s your number one pathogen. It also controls the scab on your pears and apples, your brown rots on your cherries and stone fruit. We felt like if we developed a very powerful active ingredient without premixes, it’s a single AI that gives you a lot of flexibility to develop the program you need to be successful.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
