Teaching Target Markets to Use US Dehydrated Potatoes

The United States Potato Board provides trade education activities in target markets around the world to teach end users how to use U.S. dehydrated potatoes.

TK Kuwahara, International Marketing Manager for the United States Potato Board explains in addition to providing technical information about using U.S dehy potatoes and increasing awareness with foreign bakeries and food service companies, they also are sharing dehy advantages.

Kuwahara: “The benefits of using U.S. dehy potatoes in these applications, in these target markets in comparison to their fresh local potatoes is that the U.S. dehy provides consistency year-around. Whereas the local potatoes are not consistent and not of high quality 12 months out of the year and they really vary. So bakeries and food service operations need a product they can count on.”

So what do the end users think of U.S. dehy potatoes as bakery ingredients?

Kuwahara: “Some of the success of these activities is doughnuts in China, for example we have a bakery chain that makes their doughnuts even more irresistible they say. They can increase the yield and improve the softness and they have launched these dehy potato doughnuts in 165 stores in Southern China.”
