Welcome to Open Range, I’m Susan Allen. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

I’m Greg Martin with today’s AgriBeef Minute. Every year during March agriculture gets some much needed recognition and it culminates with Ag Day tomorrow. Annette Degnan, Ag Day spokesperson.

DEGNAN: The purpose of Ag Day is it provides an annual spotlight for our industry to help consumers better understand how food, fiber and fuel are produced and really it celebrates the accomplishments of U.S. producers in providing safe, abundant and affordable food and related products.

Degnan says Ag Day also helps to recognize the role agriculture plays in strengthening the economy.

DEGNAN: We celebrate Ag Day by a special event day in Washington DC where about 100 FFA students from across the United States are chosen to come to Washington to visit their legislators. We also celebrate with a breakfast where the students hear the Secretary of Agriculture.

The essay contest winners are also recognized at a dinner and Degnan says everyone can get involved in Ag Day.

DEGNAN: We would encourage everyone interested in joining the Ag Day promotion to go to the Agriculture Council of America website at agday.org and there’s a variety of materials there on how to hold your own local Ag Day event.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m Susan Allen.
