3-1 IAN Niche Markets

3-1 IAN Niche Markets

I have had several recent conversations with the USDA risk management agency’s Jo Lynne Seufer on the topic of a growing farm community that is gender specific. Furthermore, the kinds of goods that these producers are generating seem to be very specific. It’s fascinating stuff and, quite frankly, inspiring. “We have a woman farmer in the Spokane Valley who is raising rabbits and selling them as a specialty niche market in Seattle. She cannot keep up with the demand. We have a lady at in Sandpoint and they sell a lot of their stuff online and we do have some Idaho participants and we are glad about that. There is a farmer’s market in Sandpoint where you can go online, click on what you want, and then you show up on Wednesday or Saturday and that farmer is there with what you want. So the farmer doesn’t have to sit there all day, they just know what they have to deliver that day. It’s called an online farmer’s market. They are getting so creative. I am really impressed with a lot of different things going on. A lot of fun.
