Dig It! The Secrets of the Soil

One of the Smithsonian’s most popular exhibits is now showing at Spokane’s Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture (MAC). The “Dig It! The Secrets of Soil” exhibit will be at the MAC now through September 22.

The 5,000 square-foot hands-on exhibit provides learning opportunities for all ages with a strong emphasis on the message of conserving one of the earth’s most precious resources: soil.

Although it took more than three years and lots of persistence, Lynn Bahrych says it was worth it to bring this amazing exhibit to the Pacific Northwest. Bahrych is a Washington State Conservation Commissioner who is currently working at the MAC through the CEO-on-loan program as the Project Manager for the Dig It Exhibit. She encourages people to come and experience it for themselves.

Bahrych: “It is an adventure beneath the skin of the earth to see the billions of life forms that exist in a teaspoon of soil. To begin to understand the mystery of soil fertility and the many ways that soil is essential to our lives: medicines, fabrics, construction, design of every kind -- not to mention agriculture and growing of healthful and delicious food.”?

So if you find yourself in Spokane between now and mid-September -- stop by and see it. The exhibit can be viewed at the MAC which is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
