2-10 SS Matador
In 1882, the Matador Land and Cattle Company was formed by Scottish investors and included 1.5 million deeded acres and 1 million acres of open range . That was a long time ago, but the Matador is still gargantuan in size, and has been turned into an outdoorsman’s paradise. A lifetime of hunting and a love and fascination for the area’s native wildlife has led to the perfect vocation for Les Woolsey, the Matador Ranch wildlife manager and head guide. During a recent trip associated with my show on the outdoor Channel, I chatted with Les about his philosophy for hunting whitetail on the ranch that can score as high as 220? “My approach to animals is that there are several ways to hunt The white tail deer and to really appreciate it. 1 min. he may be sitting in a shoot house or a blind observing from their, you may be on our ridge top glassing, just really taking time and being methodical about picking out your dear, by aging, scoring, make sure he is old enough, and taking the opportunity to figure out how to get in on that animal. We are coming up on the rut so we will get more aggressive with the rattling horns and grunt tubes. Once you figured that out it becomes a valuable tool for you in the field.”
