Yahoo, How Utterly Out Of Touch Are They!
Both farming and ranching are experiencing a renaissance. In other words it’s an incredibly exciting time to be in agriculture. I have climbed aboard a new wheat combine and been simply blown away by the technology, they are like something out of a science fiction movie; the size, magnitude and speed they harvest takes my breath away. Really! Livestock genetics is futuristic and cuting edge as well. We now have the ability to genetically create cattle for specific characteristics, for example, resistance to pneumonia . How cool is that! So what’s up with Yahoo? With the majority of the economy tanking it was agriculture that they listed as the most worthless major. How utterly out of touch! Fashion design and theater came in second and third followed by Animal Science and Horticulture, as the five worst majors. Stay tuned for Open Range. Norman Borloug, Ph.D, Noble Peace Prize winner and called the Father of the Green Revolution would have been rendered speechless to learn his beloved agriculture was the degree Yahoo listed as the most worthless major, with animal Science and horticulture right behind. Wonder what Bill and Melinda Gates would think of Yahoo considering the Gates Foundation’s efforts to help small farmers feed the world . On the Foundation site Bill says he’s “so optimistic about the potential for improved seeds to help small farmers confront the drought, pests, and diseases that can destroy their crops.” How did those seeds become "improved "without our land grant unviersities? I’d like to see the folks at Yahoo tell all the researchers, scientists, teachers working for the Gates Foundation they picked a worthless major.
