1-23 FB Midwest De-lists
The environmental groups are always picking on our Idaho cattlemen for their stance on delisting wolves. Guess what? The cattle people in the Midwest are trying to manage their growing wolf population as well. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is finalizing the de listing of the Gray Wolf from the endangered species act in the Western Great Lakes Region. Minnesota Cattlemen’s member Dale Lueck (loo-ick) says his group is cautiously optimistic over the ruling but is holding its breath. “Turning the management back to the states here in the Midwest 30 days after that federal rule hits the register, unfortunately this is not the 1st time they have done that, every time in the past that they have done that here in Minnesota, we have ended up with a federal court getting in the middle of it and forcing them to resend their final rule.”
Lueck says following a de listing decision, a federal judge in Washington D.C. overturned the ruling. He says there are over 3,000 wolves in Minnesota. Why don’t Midwest states follow Idaho’s Governor Otter and intervene. He let’s us manage our wolf population.
