Bringing Women In Ag Together

Bringing Women In Ag Together

Bringing women in ag together.

I’m Lacy Gray, Washington Ag Today is next.

Women have worked along side men in agriculture since time began. Today women face their own set of challenges as they work to establish themselves as independent farmers and ranchers. On February 11 Women, Farms and Food, a Women in Agriculture conference, will be held simultaneously in sixteen county locations throughout the state of Washington. Margaret Viebrock, with the WSU Research and Extension Center in Wenatchee tells why this conference is unique.

VIEBROCK: What’s unique about this conference is that it deals with those issues that women face as agricultural producers. At these sixteen locations the idea is to get women together.

Keynote speakers will be on hand as well as local presenters.

VIEBROCK: We have a couple of keynote speakers, one is Lynn Garling from Pennsylvania who’s a farmer herself and she’s going to talk about the trials and tribulations of getting started in farming. Our second keynote speaker is Rita Emmett and she’s going to be talking about blasting away procrastination, and she’s going to offer some practical advice for women involved in agriculture and how to not put off those things that are important to get done. And then we have a panel of local speakers in each of the sites talking about what they’ve done as far as staying focused and keeping current and financial management with their operations.

While the conference may be about women and geared towards women, all ag producers are welcome to attend.

I’m Lacy Gray and that’s Washington Ag Today on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
