Oregonian wins Miss Rodeo America
If you added up all the cowboys and cowgirls at the recent NFR Finals from the Pacific Northwest “OrWA Daho” we’d be right up there with Texas. When Open Range I’ll tell you about another Oregon Cowgirl who won big in Vegas as well. Traditionally the Northwest has been well represented on the Professional rodeo circuit and that will be especially true this upcoming year because 21-year-old Mackenzie Carr from Vernonia Oregon was crowned 2012’s Miss Rodeo America during the NFR. When you see all those rodeo queens in parades and summer events know that each ultimately wants to win her state crown. From there the dream (and for most it is a pipe dream ) is to make nationals. At the Miss Rodeo America pageant established in 1955 contestants vie for top spots based on their appearance, outfits ,charisma and I’ll add long flowing locks, the caveat is that you have to ride well, not only patterns laid out for contestants by judges but also on horses you’ve never ridden before. That can be tough. Mackenzie not only garnered top awards for speech, appearance and horsemanship but she also won the Spirit award. In addition to winning a horse trailer size assortment of wonderful prizes including a custom made silver trophy saddle Ms. Mackenzie will travel over 100,000 miles appearing at nearly 100 rodeo’s this upcoming year as the official spokesperson for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. IN addition to her duties as Miss Rodeo America, Carr said she plans to transfer from Oregon State University to another school to study for an architectural degree. Congratulations McKenzie
