12-14 SS Short Hair Antelope

What not to take on an antelope hunt.

A fairly regular correspondent to our show is seasoned hunting and fishing enthusiast Bill Burnett. He has given us all kinds of information regarding  everything from going after big-game, tracking wild pigs from acorns, 2 pistachios to their bedding place and as an angler, even how to bow hunt carp. Believe me Bill knows what he is doing with possibly the following caveat. He is an avid antelope hunter and also knows how to train and work dogs. His story is... Interesting. “I had a short go at antelope hunting for archery season this year but I had also decided to pick up a German wire haired puppy. This was just before antelope season opened up and as luck would have it, I had nobody to watch the puppy for me and I had to go antelope hunting. So I decided that I would teach a German shorthair how to stock antelope and as luck and common sense would have it, it ends up not being the most productive way to hunt antelope. It turns out that German short hairs like to jump up out of the sagebrush and bark at antelope right around the 100 yard distance. That makes closing the gap pretty difficult. It also makes for some very interesting looks from people passing by.
