11-23 IAN Solving Food Shortages
A new way of feeding vegetable crops seems to be emerging and it has a great deal of promise.
In a recent conversation with Paul Brentlinger, President and CEO of a company called Crop King, I learned some interesting facts about plant nutrition. There is an organic nutrition system that is based on a concept called bio-catalysts wherein crops have been shown to grow faster. Listen: “Plants don’t know if nutrition comes from salt or an organic source. They don’t know and they don’t care the process is exactly the same irrespective of the source. So you cannot tell by analyzing the inside of a tomato if that tomato is grown organically or non-organically just from what is inside the tomato. There is this new product called BioWish hydroponic which is ridiculously inexpensive. On the lettuce side, you’re looking at a penny and a half per finished head. For that you are getting more vigorous growth, greater size, more consistent time to harvest, reduced time to harvest by at least 10%, the benefits we are seeing from this product are absolutely amazing and again, this comes from a company that has been in business for at least 30 years and gets people approaching him all the time with Hey, we’ve got this great new product that will revolutionize the industry and rarely if ever do they make it past our testing house but this product is and an amazing product and we are seeing fascinating results and as goofy and as cliché as it sounds, it’s advancements like this that could help us solve food shortages.
