 Alltech’s free pig application is now available to BlackBerry users after having already been launched for iPhone and Android phones. With three features - weather, commodity prices, and pig issues - the app is the first of its kind in the animal health industry. But this is Idaho and we don’t have a lot of pigs. I asked Alltech’s Director of Communications Susanna Elliott if other apps were coming out for other livestock. “Eventually we want to move into other species with these apps. If people are not Pig producers and they are working with other livestock then hopefully we will have something for them very soon. Give me an idea of what a cattle app would be. Weather and commodity prices are transferable across other species, cattle, we could be talking about micotoxin issues, that is something that Alltech is very passionate about, other issues being mastitis, hoof health, profitability, we know that that is all it comes down to for producers across the industry, we are facing so many different squeezes and so many different directions, and so those are just a few of the things that could be on this new app as we go into other species.”
