11-14 IAN Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt maker coming to Idaho.
As America’s number 1 yogurt brand, Chobani was founded on the belief that the American people have great taste; they just need great options. Chobani Just made a great choice in announcing their plans to open a 2nd domestic manufacturing plant investing over $100 million to build a state of the art, high capacity production facility housed on 200 acres of agricultural and industrial property in Twin Falls. The new facility will enable consumers to more easily find Chobani product in stores as well as enhance their ability to bring product innovations to market. I asked executive director of the Idaho Dairymen’s Association, Bob Naerbout if this move was going to be good for Idaho’s dairy industry: “ It is excellent for the dairy industry. They are going to start by utilizing 2,000,000 pounds of milk and hope to expand to 7,000,000 pounds of milk a day. They are creating about 400 new jobs in the plant. And what prompted their decision to come to Idaho? Well we have been working with them as an association and providing information to them since early summer and the southern Idaho economic development group, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Governor have all been working with them since this summer to make Idaho the place where they wanted to put in a new plant. This will be their place for West Coast distribution of their yogurt.” Hamdi Ulukaya, CEO and founder of Chobani said that they had visited numerous possible sites over the past several months and met a lot of great people along the way. He said it was a hard decision but in the end they chose Twin Falls due to its abundant milk supply.
