USDA invests in crop insurance education in PNW

Washington Ag Today November 1, 2011 USDA’s Risk Management Agency is providing nearly 652-thousand dollars throughout the Pacific Northwest to support crop insurance education and outreach. The awards are aimed at ensuring that small and underserved producers get information they need to effectively manage their risk and remain productive.

Projects approved in Washington include “Breaking New Ground--Using Agri-Tourism as a Risk Management Strategy in the Spokane Region.” Also Enhancing Farming Practices and Marketing Skills as Risk Management Tools for Hispanic, Asian American and Beginning Farmers in Washington State. Another project will focus on the Livestock Gross Margin Dairy insurance program. That’s just some of the projects approved.

Now the Stockland Livestock Report.

This is Jack McQuinness at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. 14-hundred head of cattle at our market Monday. Cows and bulls maybe a buck higher especially on the better quality and higher yielding cows and bulls. Most of the cow trade in the 50 to 60 dollar range. Top at 62. Bulls topped at 70 with most of that trade in the 60 to 65 dollar range. Feeder cattle generally steady, maybe a little pressure. A lot of cattle being moved. Lot of feedlots full and saw some pressure on these heavier calves. Light calves probably steady with what we have seen the last week or so. Don’t forget our big stock cow sale and bred heifer sale coming up this Saturday. That will start at noon. That’s Stockland Livestock in Davenport. Thanks for listening.

Thanks Jack.
