11-3 FB Lean Beef

For 50 points,  a victory in the final round, and an opportunity to get into the lightning round, answer this question. What is lean, very affordable, delicious and just plain good for you? I’ll have the answer when I return.

Kidding about the game show but I asked the question that is no joke. We all know that beef is what’s for dinner. In America we love our steaks, roasts and hamburgers. But did you know that beef is also very lean? Here is Executive Director of the Idaho Beef Council, Traci O’Donnell to explain:  “One of our biggest hurdles in increasing beef consumption is breaking down the myths and misperceptions about the healthfulness of beef. Everyone knows that beef tastes great but people don’t realize that it easily fits within the guidelines many health organizations such as the American Dietetic Association, the American Heart Association, the USDA dietary guidelines. What people don’t realize is that the average serving of lean beef is only about 150 calories. What’s even better is that those calories really count for you. Each bite of beef is packed with zinc, iron, protein, B vitamins and other essential nutrients. Your body needs these every day to perform at its best. Today’s beef is leaner than ever, in fact, there are 29 cuts that  meet the government guidelines for lean. Your favorites like top sirloin, tri-tip, T-bone steaks, 95% lean ground beef, all of that meets the government guidelines for lean. Over half of what is being bought at the grocery store meets lean.
