Hum Drum Agriculture Campaigns
Farmers and ranchers raise your voice! Let’s have a dialog with America about where their food comes from. This from the newly formed U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance, and again I must say, Ho Hum. I’m Susan Allen stay tuned for Open Range. Yet another collation has formed with it’s mission to give "a voice to farmers and ranchers," and as the US Farmers and Ranchers Alliance states on its web page, “have a conversation with America”. But what if America doesn’t want to chat? Oh the alliance has a nice web page with places for farmers to blog and tell what they want consumers to know and a link to twitter and facebook. The group even ran full page Wall Street Journal ad inviting everyone to come dialog with farmers and ranchers. So did Sally soccer mom or Amy investment banker engage? A better bet would be that they along with 2 million other women each month were too busy logging on to see what Rhee Drummond “drummed “up at Her Pioneer Woman website; Rib Eye with Whiskey Cream sauce , maybe musing about her Marlboro man? Drummond captivates because she “gets” her non- ag audience, she has lived in their world walked as she would say "in thier pumps". Her blockbuster book Pioneer Woman Cooks promotes beef plus the nuances of the ranching lifestyle in a witty appealing format. This one woman has done more in three years of blogging for the livestock industry then decades of consumer education. In the ag industry we keep missing the boat, opting for preachy and serious messages that fall on deaf ears maybe because in the words of Herman Cain, we all just need to lighten up a bit.
