Massive Lettuce Recall & Getting Into Production Ag

Massive Lettuce Recall & Getting Into Production Ag

Massive Lettuce Recall & Getting Into Production Ag. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Taylor Farms in Salinas, CA is voluntarily recalling 3,265 cases of various bagged salad blends that have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. Fred Meyer and QFC store officials said that customers should check their refrigerators. The stores have already removed the recalled salad. The action comes after the Washington state Agriculture Department conducted a random test on a finished package of spinach. No illnesses have been reported. The bagged salad products were marketed under the brand names Fresh Selections, HEB, Marketside and Taylor Farms and distributed in Oregon and Washington among other states.

The National FFA convention wraps up tomorrow and Ryan Kelly, Oregon FFA State President, was chair of the committee concerning the creation of a leadership conference for high school students revolving around production agriculture.

KELLY: The goal of thins committee is to kind of go back to the roots of what FFA really started with which is agriculture. Over the years we really pride ourselves on the expansion of leadership programs that we have but we really don’t have that many that take on production agriculture directly so this gives an opportunity for students that really have the main focus in their career choice and their livelihood in production agriculture and opportunity for them to take advantage of these conferences to get better experience in it, help grow their SAE’s and really get their feet wet in production agriculture.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
