Idaho Farm Bureau helps land contract with Mexico Wheat Buyers

The Idaho Farm Bureau helped Idaho growers land a wheat contract with Altex and Bimbo, Mexico’s largest wheat buyers. Idaho Farm Bureau Marketing Director Dennis Brower said “We toured for two days different areas in Idaho, in Southern and Eastern Idaho. We offered them some quotes and in a few days they were buying wheat from us, so it was very successful.” Brower added “Bottom-line the Mexican buyers are looking at long term.” “They want to know what’s going to be available, so they’re out shopping and trying to find the kind of quality of wheat that they need but also the number of bushels.”

Idaho Farm Bureau President Frank Priestley who hosted the delegation said “We visited a few growers and as the wheat came off the combines they commented that it was cleanest and most beautiful wheat they’ve seen this year.”The Farm Bureau hosted buyers Armando Rosales and Martha Beatriz and worked hard at making long-term ties with the powerful Bimbo food group of Mexico, Bimbo is the 4th largest food corporation in the world while Idaho ranks 4th in U.S. wheat production. The buyer’s visit to Idaho had a sense of urgency because the Mexican drought has has cut deep into supply, these buyers need the best wheat on the market at prices they can afford to make up for Mexico’ shortfall.
