Major crop insurance deadline

Major crop insurance deadline

Farm and Ranch September 12, 2011 USDA’s Risk Management Agency says it continues to see increased participation in the Multi-Peril Insurance program for Idaho, Washington and Oregon crops. RMA says last year’s rollout of the Common Crop Insurance Policy regulations, COMBO, fundamentally revising and creating one insurance plan out of four similar plans of insurance, was a success. An additional 109-thousand acres of northwest wheat were insured with yield and revenue coverage in 2011.

The agency reminds growers that September 30th is the sales closing date for several crops in the Pacific Northwest. Among them, all wheat, Fall Planted Barley with Winter Coverage and Fall Planted Dry Peas and Lentils with Winter Coverage.

Jo Lynne Seufer of the regional RMA office says that winter barley coverage is available in more counties for 2012.

Seufer: “That includes Ada, Canyon, Elmore, Gem, Jerome, Minidoka and Twin Falls, as well as Asotin County in Washington.”

Winter coverage is also available for the 2012 crop year for Austrian Winter Peas in Benewah County Idaho.

Seufer says there has also been a big change for the Forage Alfalfa Seed Pilot which has a September 30th sales closing date as well.

Seufer: “It is as pilot program but our Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board has made it available, under written agreement, in all counties in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Finally, September 30th is also the sales closing date for Mint with Winter Coverage.
