8-3 FB Vilsack

I haven’t talked to one person, whether it be on a farm, on a range, in a restaurant, a law office, or over the back fence, who says they are happy with the way things are going economically in this country. Where does the answer lies? Obama is so  dug into his position, that you can start thinking conspiracy theorists are correct. He’s going to take us down. On the other side of the aisle, Republicans are so polarized, they are paralyzed. Interestingly, some thoughts in ag at least offer a little hope.

Do we stop spending? Do we stop programs that help welfare recipients? Do we develop industries? I don’t know but, according to U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack - there seems to be some belief that reducing spending is the only way out of the fiscal mess the country is in. But he says that’s just part of the solution: “ You also have to continue making the investments that allow you to have growth in the economy that puts people back to work and in doing so it generates additional revenue and the combination of additional revenue together with reduced spending is how you get yourself out of the fiscal mess that we have put ourselves in.” Vilsack specifically cited concern about the possibility of deep cuts to alternative energy programs. He said they are vital to the country’s future and to rural America.
