8-1 FB Milk Up
Great news for dairy producers in Idaho. In fact great news for all of us here in Idaho. Idaho milk production up 5%. Idaho milk production during June 2011 total 1.13 billion pounds which is a 5% increase from the same month last year, but down 1.3% from May 2011 according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. Here for some specific numbers is Tom Kurtz from NASS: “if you look at milk production for Idaho for the month of June, it was up 5% above a year ago, and if you look back to a month earlier this year for example January, milk production was up 4%, February was three, March was four, and then it goes to five for April and 5 for May, and 5% now for June so it is running a fairly consistent four or 5% above the previous year which if you want to compare to the year 2010, so it is back to what I would normally call a normal growth in the industry here in Idaho. If you look back in time, milk production in Idaho has been generally increasing from five to sometimes as high as 12% over the last 10 years, each year, year after year, with the exception of 2009 where it actually dropped 1%.
