Cowboys and Aliens opened this pasts weekend, can you guess which actor rarely used a stunt double for his riding scenes, Carradine,, Wayne or Ford?  I’m Susan Allen stay tuned for Open Range. Most of the 125 horses used in the Cowboy and Alien blockbuster were American Quarter Horses and the grulla team roping gelding  Dixie Sun Boy went to his forever home after the filming with none other than Harrison Ford. Rumor is that Ford told the famous Hollywood stock coordinator father/ son team of  Jack and Clay Lilley …  that after the filming was over he just had to have the  grulla gelding he rode in the movie, the very one that used up twelve boxes of Clairol hair coloring to become the much darker horse the script required.  The Lillys say Harrison is quite the rider and reveled in riding high strung Dixie in nearly all his scenes without without a double (not the typcial leading actor faire) causing director Favreau to call Harrision Ford "this generations John Wayne. Cowboys and Aliens is filmed and feels more like a John Ford western rather than a sci-fi. And with a cast of  actors that could really ride plus 50  mounted stuntmen the action is thrilling. Even with all the pyrotechs and lots of live horse falls according go the American Humane Association not one horse came close to being hurt.
