6-27 IAN Education Grants
We have an availability of about $3.5 million of funds to partner with commodity groups, minority rubes, nonprofits, to provide risk management education and outreach to farm producers throughout Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. We are looking for project proposals that would help farm producers better manage their risk and we are looking at five primary areas of risk, one being production risk which is yield, financial risk, we want to have workshops on record-keeping or different strategies that come along with the financial risk with farming, then marketing because we all know how volatile the markets are, a workshop on how to better market the crop whether that be direct marketing or niche marketing or transforming into organic, then we have human resource risk which is farm safety or estate planning or transition of that farm, legal risk is also maybe just workshops or creating awareness and these can be brochures it doesn’t always have to be a workshop or a meeting, it could be a website that could provide a tool for producers to transition their farm and ask a lot of questions about estate planning process and under that legal process is also liability insurance the liability the producer entails on a farm.
